- [Narrator] For 20 of the most commonly claimed health conditions, you don't have to wait for us to approve your claim before getting DVA-funded medical treatment. When you submit a claim to DVA for a medical condition, we will assess it as quickly as we can. Although this does take time, but that doesn't mean you have to wait for treatment. For many conditions, we will pay for your treatment before your claim has been processed. We call this provisional access to medical treatment. Provisional access to medical treatment applies to people who have left the Australian Defence Force. It covers 20 of the most common health conditions that impact veterans as a result of their service. This means you don't have to wait for us to approve your claim before getting the treatment you need, because the sooner you get treatment, the sooner you can get better. When you submit a claim, we will write to you about the program and send you a treatment confirmation form. You must present the form to your GP who will determine if your injury or illness is related to one or more of the 20 eligible conditions. If it is, your GP will complete the form and send a copy to us. You will then be able to access DVA-funded provisional treatment until your claim is finalized. Visit the provisional access to medical treatment page on the DVA website for detailed information. It explains who is eligible, the 20 eligible conditions, how to access provisional treatment, what happens if we accept your claim, and what happens if we don't. It's important to note that the program doesn't apply to VEA veterans. Visit the website to see if you're eligible. DVA also provides free mental health treatment for life through Open Arms to current and former full-time members of the ADF and some reservists, and you don't need to link the condition to your service to receive mental health support. Visit our website for more information. We're here to support you. If you have any questions, visit dva.gov.au or call us on 1-800-VETERAN.
