From 1 January 2022, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) is introducing new Veterans’ Access Payment (VAP) item numbers to support the Government’s changes to incentive payments for general practitioners working in rural and remote locations.

Permanent telehealth arrangements for general practitioner, medical specialist, and allied health services will take effect for eligible DVA clients from 1 January 2022.

From 1 January MedHealth will be DVA’s sole provider of Independent Medical Examinations to support determination on veterans’ compensation claims.

Under new contractual arrangements occupational therapists (OTs) will no longer need to obtain quotes for complex home modifications such as bathrooms, stairlifts, lifts, stairs, and other room modifications for DVA clients. There will also be some transition arrangements for OTs to be aware of.

Occupational Therapists are advised of changes to DVA’s complex home modification prior approval process as a result of our new Mobility and Functionality Support (MFS) contractual arrangements from 1 November 2021.

We’ve made changes to our Rehabilitation Appliances Program (RAP) schedule, guidelines and forms to reflect our new Mobility and Functional Support (MFS) contractual arrangements and make it easier for providers to prescribe RAP products and services.
