Each year, Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) runs the Anzac Day Schools’ Awards, a national competition that recognises the work of students, teachers and schools who engage with veterans and honour Australia’s wartime history.

This year’s theme, “Discover the stories of veterans in your local community” encouraged students to seek out veterans in their communities and learn about their experiences and life stories.

The entries demonstrated a deep and empathetic understanding of the lives of those that have served or are still serving. Students also showcased their creativity and storytelling, with interactive entries that comprised websites, songs, artwork, crochet, poetry and even an escape room.

The national winner, St Patrick’s College for Girls, in Campbelltown, NSW, will receive $5,000, a plaque and certificates. State and Territory Awards worth $3,000 each were awarded to eight schools. A further five schools received special category awards.

A total of $39,000 in prize money has been awarded this year. The full list of winning schools is included below.
